Dear Representative Harman,
Thank you for opposing the current healthcare legislation. My wife and I oppose both the healthcare initiative and Cap and Trade as a tax on small business.
As an IT consultant working primarily with a law firm in Beverly Hills representing high visibility, high net worth individuals; I see the firm's entreprneurial clients scaling back and in some cases, moving operations offshore to Asia and other developing countries ,far away from the overreaching and insatiable grasp of Our Leader. The engine that fueled The American Dream is being dismantled in favor of an ‘it’s all good’ cradle to grave euro-socialist model.
My wife runs a normally successful personal care / hair salon on the Westside. Her business has been affected by the current downturn. They are struggling to keep the business open. The business has perfect credit but the small business rep at Wells Fargo has no money to lend. While many of her 25 staff members are independent contractors who do not want to be employees and want to control their healthcare choices; her shop's payroll would be affected by the 8% healthcare tax. This tax will degrade the shop’s profit to the point that staying in business is no longer an option resulting in 25 more people out of work and another shuttered commercial space.
The over-reaching of the current administration is causing those of us who actually produce goods and services to doubt whether it is worth enduring the pain and suffering required to squeeze a dollar out of this economy. Why not just quit and go on the dole?
Honestly, where I used to awake excited about innovating and finding new ways to streamline my client's businesses, I now awake with a pall of fear and sadness about being eternally shackled to an immense and ever-growing government serving a relentless and all powerful Executive Branch. The only solace I take is that sooner or later, I will expire and be free from that burden.
The current administration is ruining our country by removing profit and motive from small business. The current administration is pursuing a path from which Thomas Jefferson and the others attempted to protect us. What has happened to the part of the oath of office that requires our leaders ‘protect and support The Constitution’?
Each month while pundits grasp for reasons why The Consumer Confidence Index has fallen yet again, those of us in small business silently bear the burden and the grim knowledge that running a business in this environment is futile. Futility and pessimism will not revive our economy.
Thank you, Representative Harman for your support.
